Guides’ Day Off on the East River
Chris and I fished the East River today and had a pretty good BWO hatch throughout the day. Chris landed this nice 17-inch cutbow (and many other fish) on a small dry fly.

Mitch had a great day of dry fly fishing today. We actually caught every fish on a dry fly, and they were all beautiful wild trout. It was a really fun day on the river!
I fished the Taylor River today for a few hours in the afternoon, down in the canyon stretch and also up at the C&R section. I threw a single dry fly with my bamboo rod the whole time. Fish were hungry and had no fear. It made for an excellent…
Joe got the first salmon of the season with me down on the lower Gunnison River this week. It was a big 20-inch male that flew in the air multiple times and ran us pretty far down the river. It was a fun ride!
I had a few hours to fish today and decided to throw mouse-like patterns on the East River. I was curious to see if I could find some big fish on mice during the daytime. I caught several nice trout, including this fat 21-inch cutbow which came up from the…
Lytle and Margaret were still on Memphis time today, but that didn’t prevent them from jumping in the Taylor River and chasing big trout. They both did great out there. It was a fun day with good fishing and good company.
We fished mostly hoppers, caddis, and BWOs today, with a few nymphs mixed in. The fish attacked the hoppers at times, but we saw some cautious swirls on our flies today, especially late in the day when they were eating caddis. Hall got this nice brown here when the fish…
I had a few hours this afternoon to fish the Taylor River C&R and try to hit the PMD hatch with my bamboo rod. The fish are fussier than ever now, and I missed a lot of fish. But I also landed quite a few nice browns like this one…
August is here and that means hoppers. Plack and his sons, Jake and Trem, did well today throwing hoppers and caddis in the riffles and on the banks. Some of the fish didn’t make it easy for the young men, but they still got some nice fish to the net.…
Had a really fun day on the Taylor River today with Peri and Virginia. They both caught some really nice fish on both nymph rigs and dry flies. We got browns, rainbows, and also a brookie and a cutthroat. Great job ladies!
