Fall is a great time to be out there fishing. It is also when brown trout spawn, so we should leave spawning trout alone during this time. You can always target non-spawning fish that are off the redds (spawning beds) and any rainbow trout (since they spawn in the spring). It’s easy to identify a redd by the clean gravel area where the female trout has made her nest (as in the photo below). The eggs she deposits there will be in the gravel for a while, so I would avoid walking on or near any redds for a couple of months. There will be hundreds of eggs buried in the gravel in each redd and we don’t want to harm these future trout.
