I hit a brief, but very thick, midge hatch today on the East River. I saw heads and noses and swirls all over the place. I had a heavy nymph rig on, so I had to totally re-rig with a new leader, tippet, and small dry fly. I caught fish after fish for about 30 to 40 minutes during the hatch. It was a blast. Most fish were feeding in a slow riffle, less than a foot deep. The only thing missing was a bamboo rod…and maybe a beer.
