Stephanie and Garrett from Colorado TU came to visit with our local TU chapter today and we squeezed in a couple of hours to fish up on the Taylor River before our meeting. They both caught some nice fish during the late afternoon hours.

Rainbow Colors
I caught this beautiful rainbow trout today on the Gunnison River. A nice fish with spectacular colors.
South Platte River
I finally got out of the Gunnison Valley this week and headed out to fish the South Platte River for a few days. It was my first time there and I wanted to see the Deckers area, Cheesman Canyon, Elevenmile Canyon, and The Dream Stream. I didn’t have enough time to really fish all those places, at least not for very long. So I’ll have to go back again to spend a bit more time in certain areas. I really enjoyed Cheesman Canyon and spent two afternoons there hiking and fishing. I caught lots of big beautiful rainbows there, like this nice one below. I look forward to fishing Cheesman again. It was the highlight of my trip.
Taylor River
Fall is my favorite time to fish the Taylor River Canyon. It’s easier to wade with the low flows, and the fishing is excellent. It was a beautiful day on the river yesterday. I caught browns, rainbows, and a really pretty cutthroat.
Fall Colors
Now that my guiding season is over, I have some time to chase trout. We’ve had a great fall with beautiful weather, really nice colors in the mountains, and good fishing. This pretty brown trout here came from the East River today. Very pretty wild fish.

Fall Fishing for Salmon and Trout
Dick enjoyed a beautiful fall day here today, catching plenty of salmon and trout. We even had some good dry fly action during a BWO hatch.
Streamer Fishing
After some cold, wet weather, the rivers came up and were a little off-color. This can sometimes make for a fun day of streamer fishing. Jon and Diane did great moving streamers through the pockets and picking up some really nice wild trout.
The Fall BWO Hatch
We’ve had a really good BWO hatch on the rivers this month. The fall BWO is small (about a size 22 or so), so it can be a challenge to fish. But Jon and Diane did great yesterday catching some very nice trout on small dry flies.
Fall Dry Fly Fishing
We had some clouds and rain, and a good BWO hatch on the river today. Brian and Marcella caught some very nice wild trout fishing double dry fly rigs. It was a FUN day!
